I was definitely not prepared for the utter charm and simplicity of these wonderful songs, grouped together on disc for the first time. Lortzing's melodies are easy on the ear and the Neue Detmolder Liedertafel are a crack group of singers, injecting their own characteristic charm into the music.

There are four different cycles here, my German is not so good so I would refer listeners to the booklet which provides amply difficult names to pronounce! Hard pressed to pick a favourite, I would definitely say that I loved the "Jagdlied" which also includes the participation of the Detmolder Hornisten, this almost feels like going out to the hunt, for all its worth anyway!

You can't really put a plug on this one, listening over and over again always increases the enjoyment. Just go ahead and buy it!
